ST. ISIDORE AGRICULTURE CENTRE
The St. Isidor Agriculture Centre at Dar tal-Providenza was officially inaugurated on Wednesday May 2009 . The Alfred Mizzi Foundation is the sole sponsor of the project and has provided solid financial support for the project to come to its fruition. Residents at the Home grow a large variety of herbs in the spacious greenhouse and then pack the produce both for their own kitchens as well as for sale to the general public.
Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Dar tal-Providenza who also blessed the Agriculture Centre named after St. Isidore, the patron of farmers, said that employment was definitely one of the important issues for persons with disability, their families and their carers. This was the key to persons with disability attaining their independence and the best quality of life. He appealed to those companies that are prepared to provide work opportunities to residents of the Home even if this required necessary support.
In a short message, Mr Julian Sammut, Trustee of The Alfred Mizzi Foundation, said that discussions on this project started three years ago and it is a great pleasure to see such an impressive Agriculture Centre with all the imaginable amenities. He said that The Alfred Mizzi Foundation believes in social solidarity and this project is a visible sign of that commitment. Also present for the inauguration was Mr Albert Petrococchino, another Trustee of the Foundation.
