A Typical Day
To achieve id-Dar Tal-Providenza’s stated aim of preparing each of its residents to enable them to take their rightful place in society, a very full programme of ability development, therapy and spiritual guidance is called for – as well as a twenty-four hour, seven days-a-week ‘caring’ service.

The residents of Id-Dar Tal-Providenza enjoy all-embracing programme of twenty-four-hour loving care combined with a comprehensive range of activities designed to enrich their lives and to help them to develop spiritually, mentally and physically with the long-term aim of placing them in their rightful place in society.
Everyday another step forward…
Because of the wide range of activies that are organised throughout the year, no two days are ever exactly the same for our residents. Everything is planned to help advance their mental and physical abilities.
Each and every resident within Id-Dar Tal-Providenza has a full schedule of planned daily activities tailored to their individual abilities and designed to help them in their journey towards social integration.

Daily activity diary

The Activity Group’s programme of organised activities in the Social Hall or Activities Hall and other small group activities commence.
Each Activity Group staff member is responsible for 2/3 residents.
Residents have their own timetable of events viz. music, drama, crafts and/or sport classes they attend. The staff are responsible for seeing that each of the residents in their care gets to every part of their daily programme on time.
9:00 a.m. Day shift breaks for breakfast on a staggered basis.
9:30 a.m. Symbolic Catechasis sessions commence. This is our way of helping our residents to develop their faith. Group leaders working with animators look after two/three residents each. Carers and Ability Promoters head the groups.
10:00 a.m. Care-workers continue with their duties – some doing household work others looking after the residents in their care.
11:00 a.m. Residents meals arrive from the kitchens. Care-workers prepare for residents lunches including setting tables and sorting out special diets. The Activity Group staff escort the residents back to their individual flats and then assist the carers with their duties.
11:30 a.m. Lunch is served.
12:00 p.m. Care-workers take their mid-day break on staggered basis – those lef in the flats carry out light duties, but are primary there to keep any eye on the residents in case of an emergency.
1:00 p.m. Activity Group Staff attend a daily meeting to review past activities and prepare for afternoon and evening activities.
2:00 p.m. The Care Staff prepares residents for their Habilitation sessions and outings. Most residents will have tea during this period. The Activity Group staff organise planned group activities and outings. Physiotherapy sessions recommence and the podologist is in attendance throughout the afternoon. Each physiotherapist is responsible for the welfare of the residents in one specific flat. This is their priority.
3:45 p.m. The Care-workers prepare their residents for the daily Mass Service.
4:00 p.m. Mass is said evey day at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel in Villa Papa Giovanni. Whilst the residents and most of the carers attend Mass, others stay in the flats to look after those not able to attend. Some of theser carers will start helping the residents with their baths/showers, others will be preparing the dining room for supper, which will have been delivered from the kitchen.
5:00 p.m. Residents have supper. The Ativity Group staff organise planned evening group activities and outings.
5:30 p.m. After supper the Care-workers continue to give baths/showers to those who need them – also change and wash the residents where necessary. The dining room is cleared and cleaned. If any of the residents want to go to bed early they are prepared. Some of them go to Habilitation sessions, others may be going out on specially organised outings. The carers get them all ready for whatever activities they are involved in and then start getting the residents beds ready for when they return.
7:00 p.m. The night shift Care-workers arrive and take over the duties of the day-staff. The hand-over again involves passing over logboos of the day’s activities and reporting any problem areas followed by staff prayers.
7:15 p.m. Day staffgo off duty. The night staff serves tea and sandwiches and then continues to prepare and help the residents to bed (individuals bedtimes depend on their days activiites/) They then carry out light duties viz ironing, sewing, dustributing bed linen etc. but most important of all they maintain a watching vigil over their charges througout the night.
One of the reasons for the smooth day-to-day running of Id-Dar Tal-Providenza is the willingness of all of the staff, be they Care-workers. Ability Promoters or Activity Group personnel, to help and share each other’s duties. This way they all gain a deeper understanding of the needs of their charges.
