Id-Dar tal-Providenza organises the annual BOV Volleyball Marathon, 53 hours of continuous play on the first weekend of July.
The purpose of the marathon is to raise funds so that id-Dar tal-Providenza keeps striving for the improvement of the quality of life, the holistic development and social inclusion of service-users.
It also aims to encourage voluntary work, sports and respect towards persons with disabilities who should be offered all the choices and opportunities that every citizen has a right to enjoy.
The marathonl takes place in the car park of Dar Tal-Providenza, in Siġġiewi.
Those wishing to participate as players or volunteers for the next ediction of the BOV Volleyball Marathon can download the relevant application form or visit www.facebook.com/Volley4DTP. Application forms will be made available on line between April and May.
On 1 January of each year RTK4Charity organises a Festa ta’ Ġenerosità (Feast of Generosity) at Dar tal-Providenza to raise fund for the Home. Its main sponsor is APS Bank.
This annual event kicks off with Mass in the home’s chapel, while local singers, dancers and bands will take part in a 15-hour marathon held in a tent in the parking area of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
An auction of art works donated by local and foreign artists is also held in the main hall. The auction is held online at www.dartalprovidenzaauctions.com
Id-Dar tal-Providenza has special coin boxes for children in which they can save some money in aid of id-Dar tal-Providenza.
With each moneybox we give a leaflet explaining that the money collected will be used for the inclusion of persons with disability to have equal opportunities and live in an environment, where they can love and be loved, learn and share their experiences with others, grow together in faith, work and enjoy life like other human beings.
We also explain that this initiative is just a drop in the ocean of what we can do in favour of persons with disability. Infact we give other example how we can reach this goal? The following are the suggestion we give to children and teachers:
Suggestions for children
• Be it in school, in our work place or anywhere else I will play, befriend and help children with disabilities.
• I will not tease or make fun of any one of these persons as I would not want this same thing to happen to me.
• I will do my best for these persons to be given equal opportunities in all walks of life, such as education, work, the church, sports and other entertainment activities.
• I will make sure older persons do not park their cars in places specially reserved for persons with disability or in front of special ramps.
Suggestions for teachers
Teachers could choose to teach their students the way to help these persons. They can either make use of special books and have special lessons regarding this subject or make use of books in which persons with disability are referred to. The educational package by the name “Holoq” can be made use of (www.knpd.org).

For nearly fifty 40 years Id-Dar tal-Providenza has been providing permanent residence and respite care at its five Homes in Siggiewi and Qawra for persons with disabilities. Giving such a service entails a considerable expense – currently running about EUR10,000 per day.
Over the years Dar tal-Providenza has managed to make ends meet thanks to Divine Providence and to the many friends and benefactors, both in Malta and abroad.
One way of raising funds is to encourage employees to make a pledge and start donating 25 Euro cents (€0.25) per week from their wages. This small amount will be deducted from their payroll and passed on to the Dar tal-Providenza bank account. From past experiences this initiative entails very little administrative work and we are sure that the majority of employees will find no objection in approving it.
Hence we are asking for your support to become part of this Scheme and encourage all employees to participate.
Employees who would like to join this scheme should contact their HR manager. If their work place is not yet part of this scheme they shoud encourage their employer to do so.
