Karus ta’ Mħabba (A Moneybox representing a chain of LOVE)

Id-Dar tal-Providenza has special coin boxes for children in which they can save some money in aid of id-Dar tal-Providenza.

With each moneybox we give a leaflet explaining that the money collected will be used for the inclusion of persons with disability to have equal opportunities and live in an environment, where they can love and be loved, learn and share their experiences with others, grow together in faith, work and enjoy life like other human beings.

We also explain that this initiative is just a drop in the ocean of what we can do in favour of persons with disability. Infact we give other example how we can reach this goal? The following are the suggestion we give to children and teachers:

Suggestions for children

• Be it in school, in our work place or anywhere else I will play, befriend and help children with disabilities.
• I will not tease or make fun of any one of these persons as I would not want this same thing to happen to me.
• I will do my best for these persons to be given equal opportunities in all walks of life, such as education, work, the church, sports and other entertainment activities.
• I will make sure older persons do not park their cars in places specially reserved for persons with disability or in front of special ramps.

Suggestions for teachers

Teachers could choose to teach their students the way to help these persons. They can either make use of special books and have special lessons regarding this subject or make use of books in which persons with disability are referred to. The educational package by the name “Holoq” can be made use of (www.knpd.org).

25c scheme – A Social Responsibility Initiative

For nearly fifty 40 years Id-Dar tal-Providenza has been providing permanent residence and respite care at its five Homes in Siggiewi and Qawra for persons with disabilities. Giving such a service entails a considerable expense – currently running about EUR10,000 per day.

Over the years Dar tal-Providenza has managed to make ends meet thanks to Divine Providence and to the many friends and benefactors, both in Malta and abroad.

One way of raising funds is to encourage employees to make a pledge and start donating 25 Euro cents (€0.25) per week from their wages. This small amount will be deducted from their payroll and passed on to the Dar tal-Providenza bank account. From past experiences this initiative entails very little administrative work and we are sure that the majority of employees will find no objection in approving it.

Hence we are asking for your support to become part of this Scheme and encourage all employees to participate.

Employers can get more information, if necessary from Mr Louis Schembri, the coordinator of the scheme at lschembri@dar-tal-providenza.org or lschembri@gmail.com or on 9988 0920.

Employees who would like to join this scheme should contact their HR manager. If their work place is not yet part of this scheme they shoud encourage their employer to do so.

A donation on Special Occassions

Many persons often organise an event to celebrate a special occassion (such as birthdays, wedding anniversary, etc) and instead of gifts they ask their guests to send a donation to Id-Dar tal-Providenza. Id-Dar tal-Providenza has Thank You Bookmarks which can be given to guests in appreciation of their donation.

If you want to make this noble choice on a special occassion, you can call us on 21462844 or 21464915 or contact us by email on info@dartalprovidenza.org.

A donation to celebrate your wedding

The wedding day is surely a very important moment for an engaged couple. Preparations for this day start in earnest and well in advance. Amongst those things that couples generally think a lot about are the wedding souvenirs.

Lately, a new choice has been introduced, a beautiful and noble choice one must say, whereby instead of the wedding souvenirs the couple makes a donation towards an institution or voluntary organization such as Id-Dar tal-Providenza.

In view of this new alternative, Id-Dar tal-Providenza, has printed bookmarks specifically for those couples who make this choice so that they, in turn, can give it to their wedding guests. On these bookmarks space has been allocated for the names of the bride and groom.

If couple is interested in making this noble choice, they can call us on 21462844 or 21464915 or contact us by email on info@dartalprovidenza.org

Becoming a volunteer

Dar tal-Providenza welcomes volunteers whom we believe can enrich the life of our residents in so many ways, such as by widening their circle of friends, becoming faith companions, helping out in the day to day running of the homes (such as maintainance work, in the kitchen in the laundry), helping in our fundraising activities or by offering their professional skills.

Those who would like to offer a helping hand should download the relavant application form and send it together with the requested documents to our Volunteers Coordinator by post at Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Triq Lapsi, Siggiewi or by email to info@dartalprovidenza.org.
