Inauguration of refurbished recreational and educational hall for residents of Id-Dar tal-Providenza

“The Marigold Foundation wants to continue to help in giving the residents of Id-Dar tal-Providenza a better quality of life. It wants to help financially in areas and projects that the generous support throughout the year by the Maltese people will not be able to undertake because of other priorities.” This was said by Mrs Michelle Muscat, Chairperson of the Marigold Foundation BOV in the Community during the inauguration ceremony of the refurbished hall at the Siġġiewi Home.

Since 1974, when Villa Papa Giovanni was built, this hall has always been used and is still being used for various recreational and educational activities for residents of Id-Dar tal-Providenza. The Episcopal Vicar for Diaconia, Mgr Charles Cordina blessed the hall and the residents and their carers that use it and praised the work that is done in the Home that gives the deserved respect and dignity to its residents.

Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, thanked Mrs Muscat for the financial support by the Marigold Foundation for the much needed refurbishment to be done to the hall. He spoke about the works that consisted of an extension to the existing stage, a new air-conditioning system, the installation of a new sound and lighting system as well as new curtains for the stage and the hall itself.

As part of the programme, residents took part in a dance presentation led by Mrs Sara Doublesin, the Home’s Dance Therapist.

Inawgurazzjoni mill-ġdid tas-sala għar-rikreazzjoni u l-edukazzjoni tar-residenti tad-Dar tal-Providenza.

“Il-Fondazzjoni Marigold trid tkompli tgħin biex tagħmel id-differenza fil-kwalità tal-ħajja tar-residenti tad-Dar tal-Providenza billi tipprovdi għajnuna finanzjarja fejn l-għotjiet u l-appoġġ kontinwu finanzjarju tal-poplu Malti ma jwasslux minħabba prijoritajiet oħra.” Dan qalitu s-Sinjura Michelle Muscat, Chairperson tal-Marigold Foundation BOV in the Community meta inawgurat is-sala rinnovata li hemm fid-Dar fis-Siġġiewi.

Sa mill-1974 meta nbniet Villa Papa Giovanni, din is-sala ntużat u għadha tintuża għal diversi attivitajiet ta’ rikreazzjoni u edukazzjoni għar-residenti tad-Dar tal-Providenza, Il-Vigarju Episkopali għad-Djakonija, Mons Charles Cordina bierek is-sala u r-residenti u l-carers tagħhom li jużawha u faħħar il-ħidma li ssir fid-Dar li tagħti r-rispett u d-dinjità li jixirqu lir-residenti tagħha.

Fr Martin Micallef, Direttur tad-Dar tal-Providenza, irringrazzja lis-Sinjura Muscat li ġentilment offriet l-għajnuna finanzjarja tal-Marigold Foundation BOV in the Community biex isir ir-rinnovament tant meħtieġ tas-sala. Huwa tkellem dwar ix-xogħol ta’ rinnovar li sar li kien jinkludi, fost affarijiet oħra, estensjoni tal-palk eżistenti, tibdil fis-sistema tal-arja kkondizzjonata, installazzjoni ta’ sistema ġdida ta’ dwal u amplifikazzjoni kif ukoll purtieri ġodda għall-palk u għas-sala.

Bħala parti mill-programm sar żfin mir-residenti tad-Dar immexxijja mis-Sinjura Sara Doublesin, id-Dance Therapist tad-Dar.

Titnieda t-8 Edizzjoni tal-BOV Marigold Volleyball Marathon

Il-BOV Marigold Volleyball Marathon 2016 timmarka t-tmien anniversarju ta’ dan l-avveniment annwali. It-tħejjijiet għall-avveniment ewlieni ta’ ġbir ta’ fondi għad-Dar tal-Providenza li tant hija għall-qalb il-poplu Malti jinsabu għaddejjin b’ritmu tajjeb ħafna. Dan tħabbar nhar il-Ħamis minn Fr. Martin Micallef, Direttur tad-Dar Residenzjali u s-Sinjura Michelle Muscat, Chairperson ta’ ‘The Marigold Foundation – BOV in the Community’ meta kienu qed jindirizzaw lill-midja. Preżenti matul il-konferenza stampa kien hemm ukoll is-Sa Elvia George Chief Finance Officer fil-Bank of Valletta, u Emanuel Zammit, Chairperson tal-Kumitat Organizzattiv tal-Maratona tal-Volleyball.

Il-Maratona li se ddum 53 siegħa se tibda nhar il-Ġimgħa, l-1 ta’ Lulju fid-Dar Residenzjali nnifisha. Aktar minn 300 voluntier ingħaqdu biex jagħmlu dan l-avveniment possibbli, u b’hekk jiġbru fondi tant prezzjużi għad-Dar, li llum, wara ħamsin sena tagħti servizz, għadha tippersonifika l-viżjoni tal-Fundatur tagħha – Mgr. Mikiel Azzopardi.

Is-Sinjura Michelle Muscat, President ta’ The Marigold Foundation – BOV in the Community esprimiet is-sodisfazzjon tagħha li l-Fondazzjoni u l-Bank of Valletta qed iġeddu l-appoġġ tagħhom lejn dan l-avveniment ta’ ġbir ta’ fondi.
“Sena wara sena, aħna naraw personalment ix-xogħol iebes li ħafna, inkluż il-voluntiera, jwettqu f’din id-Dar. L-ambjent ta’ mħabba li jitrawwem fid-Dar jirrifletti fir-residenti nfushom. Id-Djar fil-komunità huma sforz ta’ min ifaħħru, għaliex inaqqas d-distakk bejn ir-residenti u l-bqija tal-komunità, u joħolqu aktar skop għall-inklużjoni u l-integrazzjoni.”

Meta tkellmet dwar il-ħidma li qed tagħmel il-Fondazzjoni, is-Sinjura Muscat spjegat li l-Fondazzjoni hija l-evoluzzjoni naturali tal-isforzi filantropiċi tal-Bank of Valletta fil-komunità. “Il-Fondazzjoni sservi bħala ħolqa bejn l-NGOs differenti u n-nies tagħhom, filwaqt li timmassimizza l-użu tar-riżorsi sabiex jiġi żgurat li jintużaw fil-kapaċità sħiħa tagħhom.

Il-Fondazzjoni tgħin lil NGOs bħad-Dar tal-Providenza biex jiġbru l-fondi tant meħtieġa permezz ta’ avvenimenti ta’ ġbir ta’ fondi u attivitajiet oħra, fi sforz biex tgħinhom jiksbu l-potenzjal sħiħ tagħhom.”

“Bħalissa hemm 78 voluntier li jinsabu għaddejjin b’sessjonijiet ta’ taħriġ li jwasslu għall-fażi tal-għażla, li matulha dawn jonqsu għal 40 plejer li se jkunu qed jipparteċipaw fil-Maratona tal-Volleyball. Dawn il-plejers jiddedikaw sigħat u sforz sinifikanti, mhux biss matul il-Maratona nnifisha imma wkoll fix-xhur ta’ qabel li jwasslu għaliha. Dan huwa meħtieġ biex ikun żgurat li huma jkollhom l-istamina meħtieġa biex jifilħu għal 53 siegħa ta’ logħob kontinwu. Bħal f’edizzjonijiet passati, fil-Maratona ta’ din is-sena se jieħdu sehem numru ta’ plejers staġjonali li ilhom magħna mill-bidu nett, u oħrajn li qed jipparteċipaw għall-ewwel darba. Matul il-Maratona se jkun hemm divertiment live minn baned u kantanti lokali, żona ddedikata għat-tfal u stands tal-ikel. Dawk entużjasti dwar il-futbol jistgħu wkoll jaraw il-partiti tal-Euro Cup 2016 fuq skrin kbir,” qal is-Sur Zammit.

Il-BOV Marigold Volleyball Marathon se ssir fid-Dar tal-Providenza bejn il-Ġimgħa, l-1 ta’ Lulju u l-Ħadd, 3 ta’ Lulju. L-E.T. il-President Marie-Louise Coleiro-Preca se tkun qed tinawgura l-Maratona f’ċerimonja qasira nhar il-Ġimgħa fis-18:30. Il-pubbliku huwa mistieden iżur il-Maratona fid-Dar Residenzjali nnifisha u jagħmel donazzjonijiet li jmorru għat-tmexxija tagħha.

Il-kontribuzzjonijiet jistgħu jsiru bit-telefon fuq 51702012 biex tingħata donazzjoni ta’ €15 u fuq in-numru 51802013 għal donazzjoni ta’ €25. Id-donazzjonijiet jistgħu jsiru wkoll billi jintbagħat SMS fuq 50618944 jew permezz tal-BOV Mobile Pay fuq 79324834.

The 8th Edition of the BOV Marigold Volleyball Marathon is launched

The BOV Marigold Volleyball Marathon 2016 marks the eight anniversary of this annual event. Preparations are well underway for the major fundraising event towards the much-loved Id-Dar tal-Providenza. This was announced on Thursday by Fr. Martin Micallef, Director of the Residential Home and Mrs Michelle Muscat Chairperson of ‘The Marigold Foundation – BOV in the Community’ when they were addressing the media. Present during the press conference were also Ms Elvia George – Chief Finance Officer at Bank of Valletta, and Emanuel Zammit Chairperson of the Volleyball Marathon Organising Committee.

The 53-hour long marathon will kick off on Friday 1st July in the Residential Home itself. More than 300 volunteers come together to make this event possible, thereby raising valuable funds for the Home, which today, fifty years later, still personifies the vision of its Founder Mgr. Mikiel Azzopardi. He was one of the pioneers in Malta who worked hard to ensure that people with special needs are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve, instead of being ridiculed or sent to institutions ill-equipped to address their needs.

In his intervention, Father Martin spoke about the mission of the upcoming ‘feast of generosity’ and said, “The Home is today as close to the mission of its founding father as the day its first stone was set. In fact, later on this month, we shall be receiving the first residents who will be living in a new community home in Zurrieq which we have inaugurated early this year. During this Marathon, we shall be collecting funds to open another community home in Balluta.”

Mrs Michelle Muscat, Chairperson of The Marigold Foundation – BOV in the Community expressed her satisfaction that the Foundation and Bank of Valletta are renewing their support towards this fundraising event. “Year after year, we witness first-hand the hard work that many, including volunteers put into this Home. The loving environment instilled in the Home radiates in the residents themselves.

The Homes in the community are a commendable endeavour, bridging the gap between the residents and the rest of the community, creating further scope for inclusion and integration.”

Speaking about the work undertaken by the Foundation, Mrs Muscat explained that the Foundation is the natural evolution of Bank of Valletta’s philanthropic efforts in the community. “The Foundation acts as a link between the different NGOs and their publics, whilst maximizing use of resources so as to ensure they are used to full capacity. It assists NGOs like Id-Dar tal-Providenza to raise much needed funds through fundraising events and other activities, in a bid to help them achieve their full potential.”

“There are 78 volunteers undergoing training sessions leading to the selection phase, during which they will be narrowed down to 40 players who will be participating in the Volleyball Marathon. These players dedicate significant hours and effort, not only during the Marathon itself but also in the months leading to it. This is necessary to ensure that they have the necessary stamina to endure 53 hours of continuous play. As in past editions, this year’s Marathon will feature a number of seasonal players who have been with us from the very beginning, and others who are participating for the first time. During the marathon there will be live entertainment by local bands and singers, an area dedicated for kids area and food stalls. Football enthusiasts can also watch the Euro Cup 2016 matches on a big screen.” said Mr Zammit.

The BOV Marigold Volleyball Marathon will take place at Id-Dar tal-Providenza between Friday 1st July and Sunday 3rd July. H.E The President Marie-Louise Coleiro-Preca will be inaugurating the marathon in a brief ceremony on Friday at 18.30 hours. The public is invited to visit the marathon at the residential home itself and make donations towards its running.

Contributions can be made by calling 51702012 for a €15 donation and 51802013 for a €25 donation. Donations can also be made by sending an SMS on 50618944 or through BOV Mobile Pay on 79324834.

The Church cannot close its doors to Persons with Disabilties – Pope Francis

At noon on Saturday, Pope Francis received in audience participants in the Congress “And You Shall Eat at My Table Always!’ (2 Samuel 9:1-13),” organized by the sector for the Catechesis of Disabled Persons of the Italian National Catechetic Office, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its institution:

In the course of the meeting the Pope put aside the prepared text of the address, and answered off-the-cuff the questions addressed to him by two girls and a priest, on how to address differences without fear and how to avoid exclusion also in Christian communities.
Here is a translation of the transcription of Pope Francis’ words:
* * *
The first question was very rich, very rich, and it talked about differences. We are all different: there is not one who is the same as another. There are some differences that are greater and others that are less so, but we are all different. And you, the girl that asked the question, said: “Many times we are afraid of differences.” They make us afraid. Why? Because to encounter a person that has a difference, let’s say not strong but great, is a challenge, and every challenge makes us afraid. It’s more comfortable not to move; it’s more comfortable to ignore differences and say: “We are all the same, and if there is one who is not so the ‘same,’ let’s leave him aside, and not go to meet him.” It’s fear that every challenge causes us; every challenge is fearful, makes us afraid, renders us somewhat timid. But no! The differences are in fact the richness, because I have something, you have another, and with these two we make a more beautiful, greater thing. And so we can go forward. Let us think of a world where all are the same: it would be a boring world! It’s true that some differences are painful. We all know this, those that have roots in some sicknesses … but even those differences help us; they challenge us and enrich us. Therefore, we must never be afraid of differences: that is in fact the way to improve, to be better and richer.

And how is this done? By putting in common what we have. By putting it in common. It’s a lovely gesture that we, human persons, have; a gesture that we make almost without thinking, but it’s a very profound gesture: to shake hands, I give you what is mine, and you give me what is yours. And this is something that does everyone good. We go forward with the differences, because differences are a challenge but they make us grow. And let us think that every time I shake another’s hand, I give something of mine and I receive something from him. This also makes us grow. This is what comes to me as an answer to the first question.
I have forgotten something of the first question, but I will say it now with this posed by Serena. Serena makes things difficult for me, because I say what I think … She has spoken little – three/four lines, but she has said them forcefully! Serena has spoken of one of the worst things that exist among us: discrimination. It’s a very bad thing! “You’re not like me, you go there and I go here.” “But I would like to do catechesis …” – “Not in this parish. This parish is for those that are similar, there are no differences …” Is this parish good or not? [The Hall: Nooo!] What must the parish priest do? … Be converted? It’s true that if you want to do Communion, you must have a preparation; and if you don’t understand this language, for instance if you are deaf, you must have the possibility in that parish to prepare yourself with the language of the deaf. See, this is important! If you are different, you also have the possibility of being the best; this is true. Difference does not state that one who has five senses that work well is better than one, for instance, who is deaf and unable to speak. No! This isn’t true! We all have the same possibility to grow, to go ahead, to love the Lord, to do good things, to understand Christian Doctrine, and we all have the same possibility to receive the Sacraments. Understood?

When, many years ago — one hundred years ago or more — Pope Pius X said that Communion should be given to children, many were scandalized. “But that child doesn’t understand, he is different, he doesn’t understand well …” “Give Communion to children,” said the Pope, and he made of a difference an equality, because he knew that a child understands in another way. In school also, in the neighborhood, each one has his richness, is different, it’s as if he spoke another language. He is different because he expresses himself in a different way. And this fact is a richness. What Serena said happens so many times; it happens so many times and it is one of the worst things, one of the worst things of our cities, of our life: discrimination, with offensive words, too. One cannot be discriminated against. Each one of us has a way of knowing things that is different: one known in one way, another in another way, but all can know God. [A little girl approaches the Pope] Come, come … She is courageous! Come … She isn’t afraid, she risks, she knows that differences are a richness; she risks, and she has given us a lesson. She will never be discriminated against; she knows how to defend herself on her own!
See. Serena, I don’t know if I’ve answered your question. In the parish, in the Mass, in the Sacraments, all are equal, because all have the same Lord: Jesus, and the same Mother: Our Lady. Understood? [Another little girl approaches him] Come, come … another courageous one. The Father who spoke first asked some questions that are linked to what Serena said: how to receive all. But if you … I don’t say it to you, because I know that you receive everyone– but think of a priest who doesn’t receive everyone: what advice would the Pope give? “Close the door of the church, please!” –either everyone or no one. “But no — we think of that priest who defends himself — but no, Father, no, it’s not like that; I understand all, but I can’t receive all because not all are able to understand …” “It’s you who are not able to understand!” What the priest must do, helped by the laity, by catechists, by many, many people, is to help all to understand: to understand the faith, to understand love, to understand how to be friends, to understand differences, to understand how things are complementary, one can give one thing, and another can give another. This is to help to understand.

And you used two lovely words: receive and listen. Receive, namely to receive all, all, and to listen to all. I’ll tell you something. I think that today many good things are done in the Church’s pastoral care, many good things: in catechesis, in the liturgy, in charity, with the sick … many good things. But there is something that must be done more, also by priests, also by the laity — but priests especially must do more: the apostolate of the ear: to listen! “But, Father, it’s boring to listen, because it’s always the same stories, the same things …” “But it’s not the same persons, and the Lord is in the heart of each one of the persons, and you must have the patience to listen.” Receive and listen to all, and I believe that with this I’ve answered the questions.
I had prepared an address for you, and the Prefect [of the Papal Household] will give it so that it is known by all. Because to read an address is also somewhat boring … And there is a moment, when one reads an address, in which, with a certain wiliness, they begin to look at the clock, as if to say: “But when will he finish talking?” Therefore, you will read the address.
I thank you so much for this dialogue, for this visit, for this beauty of the differences that make up a community: one from another and vice versa, and all make up the unity of the Church. Thank you so much, and pray for me.

[A small boy approaches] Come, you also, come …

Now, stay seated tranquilly and, as good children, let us pray to our Mother, Our Lady. Let us all together pray to Our Lady. Hail, Mary …
[Blessing]

And please pray for me. Thank you.

Il-Knisja ma’ tistax tgħalaq il-bibien għall-Persuni b’Diżabilità.

Nhar is-Sibt, 11 ta’ Ġunju, il-Papa Franġisku laqa’ f’udjenza dawk li kienu qed jieħdu sehem fil-Kungress “U Int tiekol l-ikel fuq il-mejda tiegħi dejjem” (2 Samuel 9: 1-13)(“And You Shall Eat at My Table Always”) organizzat mit-taqsima tal-Katekeżi tal-Persuni b’Diżabilità fi ħdan l-Uffiċċju Kateketiku Nazzjonali Taljan, fl-okkażjoni tal-25 Anniversarju tal-Istituzzjoni.

F’ħin minnhom, il-Papa warrab id-diskors imħejji li kellu u wieġeb għall-mistoqsijiet li sarulu minn zewġt ibniet u saċerdot fuq kif għandhom jiġi ndirizzati mingħajr biża’ d-differenzi u kif għandha tiġi evitata l-eskluzzjoni anke f’komunitajiet Insara.

Din hija traduzzjoni fidila ta’ dak li qal il-Papa:

L-ewwel mistoqsija kienet tajba ħafna, tajba ħafna u rreferiet għad-differenzi. Aħna lkoll differenti: mhemmx wieħed li huwa l-istess bħal xi ħaddieħor. Hemm xi differenzi li huma akbar u oħrajn li huma inqas, imma aħna lkoll differenti. U inti, t-tifla li saqsiet id-domanda, għidt: “Bosta drabi aħna nibżgħu mid-differenżi.” Jagħmluna nibżgħu. Għaliex? Għax biex tiltaqa’ ma’ persuna li għandha differenzi, ejjew ngħidu mhux qawwijin imma kbar, huwa sfida, u kull sfida lilna tbeżżgħana. Huwa aktar komdu li ma tagħmel xejn; huwa aktar komdu li tinjora d-differenzi u tgħid: “Aħna lkoll l-istess, u jekk hemm xi ħadd li mhuwiex daqstant ‘l-istess’, ejjew inwarrbuh u nevitaw li niltaqgħu miegħu.” Hija l-biza’ li kull sfida tikkawżalna; kull sfida hija mimlija biza’, tbeżżagħna, tirrendina xi ftit jew wisq timidi. Imma le! Id-differenzi huma fil-fatt rikkezzi, għax jien għandi xi ħaġa, inti għandek xi ħaġ’oħra, u b’dawn iż-żewġ affarijiet nistgħu noħolqu xi ħaġa akbar u aktar sabieħa. U hekk inkunu nistgħu nimxu ‘l quddiem. Ejjew naħsbu f’dinja fejn kulħadd huwa l-istess: tkun dinja monotona! Huwa veru li xi differenzi jweġġgħu. Dan kollha nafuh, dawn li għandhom xi għeruq fil-mard …. imma anke dawk id-differenzi jgħinuna; jisfidawna u jistanuna. Għalhekk, qatt m’għandna nibżgħu mid-differenzi: huwa tabilħaqq il-mod kif ittejjeb lilek innifsek, li ssir aħjar milli int.

U kif jista’ jsir dan? Billi niġbru flimkien dak li għandna. Nagħmlu kollox ħaġa waħda. Dan huwa ġest sabiħ li aħna, persuni umani, għandna; ġest li nagħmlu tista’ tgħid mingħajr ma naħsbu, imma huwa ġest profond ħafna; li nieħdu b’idejn xulxin, jien nagħtik dak li hu tiegħi u inti tagħtini dak li hu tiegħek. U din hi xi ħaġa li tagħmel ġid lil kulħadd. Nimxu ‘l quddiem bid-differenzi, għax id-differenzi huma sfida, imma jsaħħuna. U ejjew naħsbu li kull darba li nieħu b’idejn ħaddieħor, jiena nagħti xi ħaġa li hi tiegħi u nirċievi xi ħaġa mingħand ħaddieħor. Din ikollna tagħmilna nikbru. Dan li jiġini f’moħħi bi tweġiba għall-ewwel mistoqsija.
Insejt ngħid xi ħaġa għal dik il-mistoqsija imma norbotha mad-domanda li għamlitli Serena. Serena tagħmel l-affarijiet diffiċli għalija … għax jien ngħidha kif inħossha …. Ftit li xejn qalet, tlieta jew erba’ linji kollox, imma poġġiethom mingħajr tlaqlieq! Serena tkellmet dwar waħda mill-agħar ħaġa li teżisti fostna: id-diskriminazzjoni. Hija ħaġa ħażina ħafna! “Inti mintix bħali, inti mur hemm u jien immur hawn.” “Imma nixtieq nagħmel katekeżi ……” – “Imma mhux f’din il-parroċċa. Din il-parroċċa hija għal dawk li huma l-istess, m’hemmx differenzi ….” Allura din il-parroċċa tajba jew le? [Risposta mis-sala: Leeeeee]. X’għandu jagħmel il-kappillan? … Jikkonverti ruħu? Huwa minnu li jekk trid tirċievi s-Sagrament tat-Tqarbin, irid ikollok preparazzjoni; u jekk ma tifhemx din il-lingwa, per eżempju jekk tkun nieqes mis-smiegħ, għandu jkollok il-possibiltà li f’dik il-parroċċa tipprepara ruħek bil-lingwa tas-sinjali. Taraw, dan hu importanti! Jekk inti differenti, ikollok ukoll il-possibilità li tkun l-aħjar; dan hu veru. Id-differenza ma tgħidx li xi ħadd li għandu ħames sensi li jaħdmu tajjeb huwa aħjar minn xi haddieħor li, per eżempju huwa trux u ma jistax jitkellem. Le, dan mhux veru! Aħna lkoll għandna l-istess possibiltà li nikbru, li nimxu ‘l quddiem, li nħobbu l-Mulej, li nagħmlu ħwejjeġ tajba, li nifhmu d-Duttrina Nisranija, u aħna lkoll għandna l-istess possibiltà li nirċievu s-Sagramenti. Ftehmna?

Meta bosta snin ilu – xi mitt sena ilu jew aktar – Il-Papa Piju X qal li t-tfal jistgħu jibdew jitqarbnu, ħafna skandaliżżaw ruħhom. (Bdew jgħidu) “Imma t-tfal ma jifhmux, huma differenti, ma jifhmux sew …..” “Ħallu t-tfal jitqarbnu,” qal il-Papa u mid-differenza għamel ugwaljanza, għax kien jaf li t-tfal jifhmu mod ieħor. Fl-iskola wkoll, fil-lokalità, kull persuna għandha r-rikkezzi tagħha, hija differenti, qisha qed titkellem b’ilsien differenti. Kull persuna hija differenti għax tesprimi ruħha b’mod differenti. U din hija rikkezza. Dak li qalet Serena jiġri bosta drabi; tiġri tant u hija waħda mill-agħar affarijiet, waħda mill-agħar affarijiet fl-ibliet tagħna, f’ħajjitna: diskriminazzjoni, anke bi kliem offensiv. Ħadd ma jkun iddiskriminat. Kull wieħed minna għandu l-mod tiegħu biex isir jaf affarijiiet li huma differenti: wieħed magħruf mod, ieħor b’mod ieħor, imma kollha jistgħu isiru jafu lil Alla. [Tifla żgħira tersaq lejn il-Papa] Ejja, Ejja …….kemm hi kuraġġuża! Ejja …. ma tibżax, tieħu riskju, hija taf li d-differenzi huma rikkezzi; tieħu riskju u tatna lezzjoni. Hija qatt mhu se tkun iddiskriminata; taf kif għandha tiddefendi ruħha!

Qed tara, Serena. Ma nafx jekk weġibtx il-mistoqsija tiegħek. Fil-parroċċa, fil-Quddiesa, fis-Sagramenti kulħadd huwa ndaqs, għax kulħadd għandu l-istess Mulej: Ġesù u l-istess Omm: Il-Madonna. Qed niftehmu? [Tifla oħra żgħira tersaq lejh] Ejja, ejja … tifla kuraġġuża oħra. Il-qassis li tkellem l-ewwel staqsa ftit domandi li huma marbuta ma’ dak li qalet Serena: Kif nilqgħu lil kulħadd. Imma jekk inti … mhux qed ngħid għalik għax naf li tilqa’ lil kulħadd – imma kkunsidra qassis li ma jilqax lil kulħadd: x’parir jagħti l-Papa f’dak il-każ? “għalaq il-bieb tal-knisja, jekk jogħġbok!” jew (tilqa’) lil kulħadd jew lil ħadd. “imma le – naħsbu f’dak il-qassis li jiddefendi lilu nnifsu – imma le, mhux hekk ta: Nifhem lil kulħadd imma ma nistax nilqa’ lil kulħadd għax mhux kulħadd kapaċi jifhem….” “Inti ma tistax tifhem!”. Dak li l-qassis irid jagħmel, bl-għajnuna tal-lajċi, tal-katekisti, tal-ħafna u ħafna nies hu li jgħin lil kulħadd biex ikunu jistgħu jifhmu: jifhmu l-fidi, jifhmu l-imħabba, jifhmu kif jistgħu isiru ħbieb, jifhmu d-differenzi, jifhmu kif l-affarijiet huma kumplimentari ma’ xulxin, wieħed jista’ jagħti xi ħaġa, u iehor jista’ jagħti xi haġ’oħra. Dan li jfisser li tghin biex jifhmu.

U inti użajt żewġ kelmiet sbieħ: tilqa’ u tisma’. Tilqa’, jiġifieri tilqa’ lil kulħadd, kulħadd u li tisma’ lil kulħadd. Ngħidilkom din. Naħseb li llum ħafna affarijiet tajba jsiru bħala parti mill-kura pastorali tal-Knisja, isiru ħafna ħwejjeġ tajba: fil-katekeżi, fil-liturġija, fil-karità, mal-morda …..ħafna affarijiet tajbin isiru. Imma jeħtieġ li tista’ ssir aktar, anke mill-qassisin, anke mill-lajċi – imma l-qassis speċjalment iridu jagħmlu iżjed: l-appostolat tal-widna: li tisma’. “Imma, Father, imma xi dwejjaq toqgħod tisma’, għax huma dejjem l-istess stejjer, l-istess affarijiet ….” “Imma mhumiex l-istess persuni, u l-Mulej huwa fil-qalb ta’ kull wieħed mill-persuni, u jrid ikollok il-paċenzja li tisma'”. Mela ilqgħu u isimgħu lil kulħadd u nemmen li b’din weġibt għad-domandi.

Jiena ħejjejt diskors għalikom u l-Prefett [tar-residenza Pontifiċja] se jqassmu ħalli kulħadd ikun jaf il-kontenut tiegħu. Għax biex taqra diskors hu kemmxejn tedjanti ….. u jkun hemm waqt meta wieħed ikun qed jaqra diskors, li matulu jibdew iħarsu lejn l-arloġġ, bħallikieku jgħidu: “Meta se jieqaf jitkellem?”. Għalhekk, id-diskors se taqrawh inthom.

Nirringrazzjakom ħafna għal dan id-djalogu, għal din iż-żjara, għal din is-sbuħija tad-differenzi li jagħmlu komunità: wieħed minn ieħor u bil-maqlub, u kollha jagħmlu l-unità tal-Knisja. Grazzi ħafna u itolbu għalija.
[Jersaq lejh tifel żgħir]. Ejja, inti wkoll ejja ….
Issa ibqgħu bilqegħda bil-kalma kollha u, bħala tfal tajba, ejjew nitolbu lill-Omm Tagħna, lill-Madonna. Ejjew ilkoll nitolbu lill-Madonna. Is-sliem għalik, Marija……

[Tberik tal-miġemgħa]

U jekk jogħġobkom, itolbu għalija. Grazzi
