Fly A Kite For Charity raises €5,355 for Id-Dar tal-Providenza

A “Fly A Kite For Charity” activity held on June 29th in Żurrieq raised €5,355.88 for Id-Dar tal-Providenza and was presented to Fr Martin Micallef, Director of the Home, during the Volleyball Marathon that was organised during the first weekend of July.

The organizing committee, made up of Mr. Raymond Schembri, Chev. Lawrence Collins, Ms. Josephine Zammit and Mr. Annetto Camilleri, all hailing from Żurrieq, was instrumental behind the “Fly A Kite For Charity” which is unique to the Maltese islands. This activity took place at Ġnien il-Ġibjun in Żurrieq and although the main attraction was the original Maltese kite, it also managed to unite the whole village together to contribute in some way or another to Id-Dar tal-Providenza.

The amount raised also included sale of kites, cakes, books and knitted objects. The Organizing Committee thanks all those who contributed for this activity, all the sponsors who supplied everything required to avoid any expenses, the Archpriest of Żurrieq, Fr Karm Mercieca, and last but not least all the people of Żurrieq for their support and encouragement.

Matul l-attività “Mnarja bit-Tajra għall-Karitá” li saret nhar l-Erbgħa 29 ta’ Ġunju, fiż-Żurrieq inġabret is-somma ta’ €5,355.88 għad-Dar tal-Providenza u ġiet ippreżentata lil Fr Martin Micallef, Direttur tad-Dar, waqt il-Maratona tal-Volleyball li saret fil-bidu ta’ Lulju.

Il-Kumitat Organizzattiv imwaqqaf apposta u kompost mis-Sur Raymond Schembri, is-Sinjorina Josephine Zammit, is-Sur Annetto Camilleri u Chev. Lawrence Collins, ilkoll miż-Żurrieq, kien il-moħħ wara “Mnarja bit-Tajra għall-Karitá”. Din l-attività saret fi Ġnien il-Ġibjun iż-Żurrieq u għalkemm l-attrazzjoni speċjali kienet it-tajra oriġinali Maltija irnexxielha tgħaqqad lir-raħal kollu li b’mod jew ieħor għen lid-Dar tal-Providenza.

Is-somma miġbura kienet tinkludi wkoll dħul mill-bejgħ tat-tajr, kejkijiet, kotba u affarijiet maħdumin bis-suf. Il-Kumitat Organizzattiv jixtieq jirringrazzja lil kull min ikkontribwixxa għal din l-attività speċjalment l-isponsors li bl-għotjiet tagħhom koprew l-ispejjeż li kien hemm, lill-Arċipriet tal-Parroċċa Dun Karm Mercieca, imma l-aħħar u mhux l-inqas liż-Żrieraq kollha għall-appoġġ u l-inkoraġġiment tagħhom.

L-Isqof Emeritu, Mons Paul Darmanin iżur id-Dar tal-Providenza

Huwa beda ż-żjara tiegħu b’quddiesa fil-kappella tad-Dar fejn f’diskors qasir qasam il-ferħ tiegħu li kien qed iżur din id-Dar għall-ewwel darba fejn setgħa jaqsam ftit il-ħajja ma’ dawk kollha li jgħixu u jaħdmu f’din id-Dar.   Huwa saħaq li x-xogħol li jsir fid-Dar mhux xogħol għal xi ħadd partikolari biss għax fiha kulħadd jgħix il-ħajja ta’ familja. 

Wara l-quddiesa l-Isqof Darmanin ltaqa’ mar-residenti tad-Dar u talab fuq il-qabar ta’ Dun Mikiel Azzopardi.  Huwa ra wkoll ix-xogħol li qed isir fuq il-pixxina terapewtika li tibda tintuża’ aktar tard din is-sena, żar il-kmamar multisensorjali kif ukoll għadda ftit ħin mar-residenti li jaħdmu fic-Ċentru Agrikolu San Isidor.

Bishop Emeritus, Mgr Paul Darmanin pays visit to Id-Dar tal-Providenza

“As soon as you step in the grounds of Id-Dar tal-Providenza you feel a different atmosphere. You feel that here there is true attention, true care and true love. Here, love is shared with one another really and truly as a family.” This was a comment made by H.E. Mgr Paul Darmanin OFM.Cap, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Garissa in Kenya when he visited id-Dar tal-Providenza on Wednesday, 6th July. He was met by Fr Martin Micallef, Director of the Home together with a group of residents.

At the start of his visit he celebrated the Holy Eucharist. In a short speech he shared his joy in visiting this Home for the very first time where he could share for a little while the life of those who lived and worked in the Siġġiewi Home. He stressed that the work done here was not just for someone in particular because life at the Home is more that of a family.

Following the Mass, Bishop Darmanin met up with the residents of Id-Dar tal-Providenza and prayed on the grave of Dun Mikiel Azzopardi. He found time to see the work progressing on the therapeutic pool that will be functioning later this year, saw the multisensory rooms and talked with the residents working at the St Isidor Agricultural Centre.

Il-Communications Coordinator tad-Dar tal-Providenza f’laqgħat fi Brussell

Victor Formosa, il-Communications Coordinator tad-Dar tal-Providenza, kien fi Brussell bħala parti minn grupp ta’ rappreżentanti ta’ diversi NGOs f’pajjiżna għal żjara ta’ nformazzjoni dwar l-Unjoni Ewropeja.

Matul iż-żjara ta’ jumejn, il-grupp attenda għal sensiela ta’ taħdidiet minn kelliema differenti dwar temi li jolqtu lill-Unjoni Ewropeja kif ukoll temi ta’ nteress għall-NGOs Maltin. Kien hemm ukoll preżentazzjoni fil-Parlament Ewropew dwar il-funzjoni tal-istituzzjoni fejn hemm ħames MEPs Maltin li jirrapreżentawna.

Id-Dar tal-Providenza’s Communications Coordinator in Brussels meetings

Victor Formosa,  Id-Dar tal-Providenza’s Communications Coordinator, was in Brussels as part of a two-day information visit for a group of representatives of NGO’s in Malta.

The visit consisted of a series of talks by various high-profile speakers on the functioning of the EU Institutions as well topics of particular interest to Maltese NGOs. The programme also included a presentation at the European Parliament where five MEPs represent Malta.

Cardinal Prospero Grech met up with residents of Id-Dar tal-Providenza during a visit he paid at the Home in Siġġiewi. He spoke with the residents and then had lunch with some of the residents and the administration of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.

Cardinal Grech also found time to be present during TVM’s programme Xarabank that was raising money for Id-Dar tal-Providenza and was on the phone answering calls from viewers making their donations.

Somma ta’ €487,204 miġbura waqt il-Maratona tal Volleyball fid-Dar tal-Providenza.

Waqt il-Maratona tal-Volleyball fid-Dar tal-Providenza inġabret is-somma sabiħa ta’ €487,204. Il-Maratona bdiet il-Ġimgħa u ġiet inawgurata mill-E.T. President ta’ Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca u waslet fi tmiemha f’nofs il-lejl tal-Ħadd.

Izjed min 300 voluntier taw l-appoġġ tagħhom waqt din il-Maratona li rat erbgħin player jagħtu kollox biex jiġbru dawn il-fondi għad-Dar tal-Providenza.

Parti mis-somma miġbura kienet tinkludi €260,005 miġbura waqt il-programm Xarabank li sar nhar il-Ġimgħa 24 ta’ Ġunju.
Fr Martin Micallef irringrazzja lill-poplu Malti u Għawdxi tal-appoġġ li ta’ lid-Dar tal-Providenza. Fr Martin sostna li l-ammont li nġabar hu xhieda ta’ kemm il-Maltin u Għawdxin għandhom għal qalbhom din id-Dar u rega’ wiegħed li ser jibqa’ jingħata l-aqwa servizz possibbli lir-residenti ta’ din id-Dar.

A sum of €487,204 was raised in the BOV Volleyball Marathon held at Dar tal-Providenza.

A sum of €487,204 was raised in the BOV Volleyball Marathon held at Dar tal-Providenza. The marathon started on Friday and was inaugurated by H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca President of Malta and came to an end at midnight on Sunday.

Over 300 volunteers provided their support to the marathon, which saw 40 players giving it all to raise the necessary funds for id-Dar tal-Providenza.
The total sum collected includes €260,005 which were collected during Xarabank that was held on Friday 24 June.

Fr Martin Micallef, thanked the Maltese for their constant support to Id-Dar tal-Providenza and its cause. Fr. Martin said that the funds raised are indicative of how much the Maltese love id-Dar Tal-Providenza and reiterated the commitment of offering the highest level of professional services for the residents of the home.
